Red Creek Caldwell Sport Scraper- 3mm

Product Description

Not all scrapers are created equal. We find it astonishing that the plastic on some of the scrapers from major wax brands seems incapable of scraping the hardest paraffins from that brand, no matter how much you try to sharpen it! We first encountered these Red Creek scrapers on the World Cup in the fall of 2008. Somehow about five of them managed to make it from the USST wax cabin back to the shop (maybe they stowed-away in a backpack?).

These are 3mm thick scrapers - on the thin side of things. In spite of the popular conviction that thick scrapers are betterm, thin seems to be the overwhelming preference of professional waxers, including us. Skis never stay completely flat, and thick scrapers don't follow the base. It always takes more work to get wax off with a thick scraper. And these thin ones are really easy to keep sharp. Lightweight too (think of the performance benefit!). Anyway, we like the 3mm scrapers, so that's what we sell.

As a follow-up to our previous "Peter Johansson Edition" custom printed scraper, we've had this one produced to commemorate the double-medal day at the 2015 Falun World Championships that Jessie Diggins and Caitlin Gregg gave us. That was a day that gave the service staff something to really feel good about, and so we gathered signatures from all of the ski service staff from that day. They scrapers are printed in Red Creek red, along with silver and bronze ink (get it?). I'm pretty sure that there was some magic in the air that day for the US Ski Team, and we tried to capture a bit of it in these scrapers.

One note - the Falun graphic on the non-signature side is built from an old ski-marking sticker that was on my cousin Tim's race skis from 1983. I love those old ski marking stickers and stamps - you always knew a good pair of skis when something showed up covered in race marks. Falun is one of the truly legendary venues, and we wanted to commemorate a bit of the history of the venue as well - so we recreated the old logo. Now we just have to hope that the FIS doesn't sue us over the depiction of their WM medal on there. Come to think of it - you might want to get your scrapers quick before the get confiscated...
